It is believed that Bobbin Head derived its name from a rock located within the vicinity of the Marina, which, when partially submerged, appeared to bob up and down. A diverse range of vegetation, from arid sclerophyll and remnant rain forests to the waterways mangroves provides homes for a variety of plants and animals, including the spotted tailed quell and the southern brown bandicoot. During a visit, it is not uncommon for students to be surprised and thrilled by an encounter with a important Joanna or swamp wallaby. The Bobbin HeadKalkari area provides an insight into the cultural history of the area, providing a different range of important Aboriginal heritage sites, including customary rock engravings, midden caves and sites of Aboriginal ace grinding. Together with the interesting geological formations, the area also provides an insight into the human history of the area through the interesting Aboriginal engraving sites and early European heritage sites, including evidence of a convict road and associated school. The area showcases a wealthy diversity of important Aboriginal sites including rock engravings at the Basin Track, the Red Hands Cave and the Aboriginal cave shelter site. Schools can choose from a variety of trails and programs that are offered within the West Head area. Manly Warringah War Memorial Park is a 375 hectare bush land providing an urgent habitat for plants and animals and visitors alike. The area is home to over 300 species of identified plants within six vegetation communities. This provides habitat to a diversity of native animals, with over 80 species of birds calling the area home. We visit a number of different areas so be sure to check the meeting point and areas that we will visit. Gibberagong EEC aims to inspire young people to experience and join with the automatic world and foster the development of certain behavior change. We donate a variety of lofty quality field work and environmental and sustainability education programs for primary school students K6 and inferior students 712. Our programs are delivered across four locations in northern Sydney or can be tailored to programs within and around your school. The center also delivers professional learning opportunities for teaching staff both at the center and within schools or schools can book the Gibberagong facility for their own Staff Development Days.
